For an almost week long gathering hundreds of boats make the trip to Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands. Most of these boaters come from Puerto Rico and have affectionately nicknamed themselves the Puerto Rican Navy. During Christmas in July they will stage beach parties and visit bars and restaurants. The event has grown each year and now has sponsors which include banks and beer and rum companies in Puerto Rico. The sponsorships offset the cost for things like beach permits and bands. While it is an almost week long event, a massive party takes place on July 25 (the actual day of Christmas in July).
